What links a horse carousel more than a century old with splashy indoor thrills in Rulantica? More than you might expect. On July 25, Carousel Day is celebrated worldwide — and at the Europa-Park Resort, it's worth a closer look at an attraction type that has delighted generations and sits deep in the Mack owner family's story. Nine circular rides await guests across Europa-Park and Rulantica, from historic classics to modern debuts.
The Mack family's story started nearly 250 years ago with wagons and carriages. Over time, carousels and other rides joined the lineup. Today MACK Rides builds attractions for parks around the world and has delivered countless carousels. That blend of traditional craftsmanship and innovative leisure tech is exactly what guests feel when they step from a wooden classic onto an interactive water ride.
Among the standouts is the "British Carousel" in the English themed area. The more than 100-year-old horse carousel stayed in family hands for four generations before finding a home at Europa-Park. Another gem is the "Eden Palladium" in the Confertainment Center: a historic horse carousel from 1904 with richly detailed wooden horses and its original look.
How the classic carousel keeps evolving shows up in "Tønnevirvel" at Rulantica. The interactive attraction introduces MACK Rides' Twist 'n' Splash for the first time worldwide inside a water adventure world. Nine circular boats, each seating up to six passengers, spin at once on three platforms; water blasters complete the ride. As an indoor attraction, "Tønnevirvel" runs year-round.
Also in the mix: "Feria Swing" in the Spanish area, the "Wiener Wellenflieger – Glückspilz" in Austria, the "Koffiekopjes" in Holland, and the "Spinning Dragons" in the Irish area. Across the themed lands, the range runs from nostalgic elegance to playful thrills.
Carousel Day does more than spotlight one of leisure's most traditional attractions. It also shows how closely the Mack family's roots tie into modern ride development. To this day, the carousel remains a fixture of the Europa-Park Resort and draws millions of visitors of every age, year after year — a perfect reason to ride all nine with fresh eyes.
