Bobbejaanland turns into a music festival on Saturday, Sept. 5. Goldies Festival opens its first edition, and some visitors go straight to the awkward question. Is this the 100% Retro festival that was canceled in 2022? The organization stresses that Goldies is an entirely new event from the team behind Legacy Festival.
Anyone who shows up will find three stages. The iconic cowboy village El Paso, the Arena and the outdoor piste become a lively festival site. In the Saloon, the golden 1950s come to life again. Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carambole, De Sangriola's and Radio Tennessee are on the bill, among others. A unique chance to sink back into rock 'n' roll and rockabilly.
The Arena is disco, with Studio Disco. The Gibson Brothers take the stage, along with Paul Michiels of Soulsister, Boney M, ABBA4U, Ruth McKenny, Barry White by Eddie Grovell and Esther & Anita of the Dolly Dots. The absolute eye-catcher is This is Tina, the internationally praised tribute act that brings Tina Turner back to life.
Rock and New Wave fans get their fill on the Mainstage of the outdoor piste. Mission M, The Policy, U2BE, De Kreunaers and Mother Mercury play there. Mother Mercury is Europe's number-one Queen tribute band. The musical nostalgia comes in a hearty helping.
The festival village adds a varied program, extensive catering and free restrooms. All the ingredients for a sociable festival.
Goldies Festival stands independent of the earlier 100% Retro festival, canceled at the very last moment in 2022. Bobbejaanland is working with the experienced team behind Legacy Festival from Mol. They stress there is no connection to that earlier organization. On their social media, they still note that the aftereffects are being felt.
