Theme park fans have plenty to look forward to at Efteling from 2029 onwards. With Missie Luminar the popular Dutch park is introducing its very first suspended launch coaster – a ride where the vehicles hang beneath the track and blast off with a powerful launch. Visitors become missionauts and set off on an expedition whose goal is to break the light barrier, hitting speeds of up to 80 km/h on a ride that lasts more than two minutes and delivers several moments of weightlessness.
The story starts inside a scientific institute. There, guests receive their mission instructions and climb aboard the vehicle alongside seventeen other missionauts. A strong, spectacular launch gets things moving. What follows is a fast, energetic ride full of speed, surprising elements and breathtaking weightless moments. Will the missionauts reach their ultimate goal?
Around the new attraction an atmosphere is being created that recalls the wonders of nature, scientific experiments and the great voyages of discovery from the 19th century. The 50-million-euro investment shows how important this project is to the park.
The location is particularly well chosen. Missie Luminar will be part of the themed area Het Eiland van de vijf Zintuigen – the Island of the Five Senses – right by the main entrance. Together with the House of the Five Senses, the Efteling Grand Hotel, the Efteling Theater and Aquanura it forms a lively zone full of movement, arrivals and discovery. The speeding vehicles are already visible as soon as you enter the park, giving an immediate thrill.
Fons Jurgens, General Director of Efteling, is excited: “Missie Luminar will be a fantastic addition to our lineup of thrilling rides. This specific type of coaster is new to Efteling. The top speed reaches up to 80 km per hour, but it might feel even faster to you. It will be unique and special, also because of its location. Missie Luminar is an addition to the themed area Het Eiland van de vijf Zintuigen. Visitors will see the speeding vehicles right upon entry, as they begin their day at Efteling. We still need to be patient for a little while, but we are looking forward to the first reactions from our visitors.”
With Missie Luminar, Efteling is making a clear statement with innovative attractions and creating an experience that skilfully blends technology, story and theming. From 2029 the mission begins – are you ready?
