More Than a Million LEGO® Bricks Move Into Miniland – New Copenhagen Harbor District Opens at LEGOLAND® Billund

LEGO® fans and Miniland enthusiasts have a special reason to celebrate today: A brand-new area has opened in the popular Miniland attraction at LEGOLAND® Billund. Inspired by the vibrant Copenhagen harbor, it was built with more than a million LEGO® bricks and features iconic structures such as Pakhuset in Engholmene, the Cirkelbroen, and the majestic Royal Yacht Dannebrog. This expansion makes the already beloved Copenhagen section of Miniland even more lively and brings real personal stories from the Danish capital into the miniature world.

The inauguration was turned into a true celebration: A red carpet, colorful balloons, and ice cream for the first 1,000 guests created a joyful atmosphere. Park employees and visitors celebrated together the opening of the new district, which is centrally located in Miniland right next to the existing Amalienborg and Nyhavn. Behind the scenes, the park’s model builders had worked intensively on the project for more than half a year to realize every detail with precision.

“It’s a huge relief to stand here and finally see the LEGO® buildings side by side in Miniland. Building with LEGO is fun, but as a model builder, the best part is now when guests can finally experience what you’ve built. That’s why today is a big day,” says Jan Mouritzen, Head of the Model Department at LEGOLAND® Billund.

One particularly special highlight is the real Copenhageners who have now become part of the new area as LEGO® figures. Ahead of the opening, LEGOLAND® had searched for Copenhageners who dreamed of moving into the new harbor district – as miniature versions of themselves. Interest was overwhelming. Among hundreds of applicants, 26-year-old Anna Lund was selected. Born and raised in Copenhagen, Anna often walks with her service dog Trille along the Cirkelbroen. Today she stood in front of her own LEGO® figure and that of her loyal companion for the first time – placed exactly at that spot.

“It’s huge. It’s so surreal. It may be a small figure, but it’s a huge honor – especially being built together with my service dog Trille. She’s a big part of my life, and I don’t know where I would be without her,” Anna Lund shares, visibly moved.

Families also received the unique opportunity to become part of the new miniature world themselves. The Agerlin Lund family traveled to Billund especially to create their own LEGO® figures in the park’s model workshop. On the morning of the opening they were allowed to position these personal figures on the beach at Havnevigen – exactly where they live and love to swim.

“It’s really fun. If I come here one day with my friends, I can say ‘that’s me’, and then they can say ‘what’,” reports nine-year-old Vita, for whom entering Miniland and placing her own figure was especially exciting.

Her father Simon Agerlin Lund adds: “It’s been a wildly fun and wonderful experience. As a Dane, there’s something really special about LEGO. I came to LEGOLAND® and Miniland as a child and remember how impressive it was, so it’s super fun to become part of it.”

The new harbor district expands the existing Copenhagen area in Miniland in an impressive way. In total, more than a million LEGO® bricks were used. The largest single structure is the Royal Yacht Dannebrog, which alone required 225,000 bricks. With fine details such as Pakhuset in Engholmene and the Cirkelbroen, a vivid image of Copenhagen’s harbor emerges that visitors can now experience up close. For everyone who loves Miniland, this expansion means new exciting discoveries and personal stories that make the miniature city even more authentic.
