Efteling January 2026: Mostly Empty – Only January 17 Saw Strong Crowds

Efteling in January 2026 was a dream month for anyone who loves relaxed park days with short wait times. The Dutch fairy tale park showed predominantly minimal to very low attendance on most days – paths stayed clear, queue areas spacious and almost every attraction immediately accessible. Only one day broke the calm: January 17, with significantly higher crowds.

After the nationwide Christmas holidays ended on January 4, peace quickly returned. On New Year’s Day (January 1), attendance remained minimal, on the bridge day, January 2, it briefly rose to a moderate 41.3 percent before dropping again. From January 5 onward, an extremely quiet phase with minimal to very low attendance dominated. The absolute low point came on January 8 with only 8.2 percent – the lowest figure of the entire month. Even on the Epiphany holiday (January 6), nothing changed. Cool, rainy and windy winter weather reinforced this tranquil trend noticeably.

The clear highlight of the month was January 17: With 69.5 percent attendance and an average wait time of 26.7 minutes, it was the busiest and longest-wait day of January. Already on January 18, crowds dropped back to moderate levels.

A stable weekly and daily pattern then emerged. Mondays through Thursdays stayed consistently very low, Fridays were slightly higher, Saturdays reached an average moderate 38.9 percent and Sundays ranged from low to moderate. The last week of January remained particularly calm. Throughout the day, attendance typically rose after the first opening hours, peaked between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and then declined again – this pattern held on every single day.

The attractions showed a clear picture: Danse Macabre, Joris en de Draak and the Stoomtrein stations recorded the longest average wait times, closely followed by Symbolica and Droomvlucht. Significantly shorter lines formed at the roller coasters Baron 1898 and Python as well as the family attractions Carnaval Festival, Max & Moritz and Fata Morgana. Classics such as Stoomcarrousel, Halve Maen and Villa Volta had the shortest waits. On the very quiet days, waits were minimal everywhere. Only on January 17 did times noticeably increase at the top attractions – Single Rider lines helped shorten them further there.

The low attendance created a relaxed atmosphere throughout the park: Paths remained clear at all times, queue areas offered plenty of space and every attraction was easily accessible – even on moderate days.

Who was January 2026 perfect for?

The month was especially ideal for anyone prioritizing short wait times and relaxed park moments. Roller coaster fans of Joris en de Draak, Symbolica or Baron 1898 got the best experience on weekdays after January 4. Families focusing on Droomvlucht, Fata Morgana or Gondoletta benefited equally from the calm conditions. Those seeking almost private park days were perfectly served Monday through Thursday.

In summary, January 2026 at Efteling was characterized by predominantly calm conditions with only a few moderate days and one single busier day. The combination of the post-holiday period and the weather created the perfect setting to experience Efteling at its most relaxed and accessible.
