Efteling presents “Magicaluna,” a brand-new illusion show filled with surreal and dreamlike illusions. The 20-minute nonverbal production centers on enchantment and spectacle. Starting April 3, visitors can join the teenage girl Luna daily in the Efteling Theater for a journey through dizzying dreams, where magical illusions and whimsical creatures deliver a key life lesson: You’re never too old to dream.
The story is set on the evening before Luna’s birthday. Determined to move on from childhood, she tidies her room and packs away all her old toys — including Jokie, the doll her grandmother gave her. That night, something unexpected happens: While Luna sleeps, dream builders appear and use enchanting tricks to turn her room into a grand dream spectacle.
Luna awakens to a series of surprises. Toys suddenly move on their own, shadows point the way, and illusions transport her into a world of pure fantasy. Through this magical adventure, she regains the feeling she had nearly lost: her own sense of wonder.
Efteling is working with renowned producer Magus Utopia for the first time on “Magicaluna.” With more than 25 years of experience and performances in over 40 countries, Magus Utopia is celebrated for originality, artistic skill, and fantasy illusionism that places storytelling at its core. Previous projects include contributions to “Nightmare Fuel Wildfire” at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights in Florida — the highest-rated show in the event’s history — and the design, construction, training, and direction of several productions for China’s Chimelong Ocean Kingdom circus theater. For Efteling, Magus Utopia has created a dreamy illusion show bearing a clear Efteling signature.
“Magicaluna” (pronounced Ma-gi-ka-lu-na) is a 20-minute nonverbal spectacle. It runs from April 3 through Sunday, November 8, with three daily performances at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. in the Efteling Theater. On the premiere day—Friday, April 3—the first public shows are at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Admission is free, and seats cannot be reserved. As a family show recommended for ages 6 and up, “Magicaluna” does not affect the schedule of the theater production “CARO.”
