The Mess: Heart of the Tavern
Once a gathering place for Spanish soldiers, the central room, known as The Mess, now invites pirates to share stories at long tables. A striking anchor, adorned with candles and dripping wax, hangs overhead. The grand bar, crafted from salvaged pieces of a cursed shipwreck, features a skull-shaped stern housing a collection of grog and specialty brews. The Enchanted Rum Bottle, a gift from the sorceress Tia Dalma, serves as the source of the tavern’s unique drinks. Rummy, the quartermaster, moves along the bar’s ledge, greeting guests and ensuring order while Merry is away.
Rummy: The Charismatic Quartermaster
Perched above the bar, Rummy, Merry’s loyal First Mate, oversees the tavern as its quartermaster. Having retired from seafaring, he remains devoted to Merry, sharing pirate tales, leading rousing toasts, and keeping the crew in line. Disney fans may notice his striking resemblance to the former Barker Bird, once stationed at the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean before vanishing. From his vantage point, Rummy ensures everything runs smoothly.
Captain’s Quarters: Luxury with Pirate Flair
The Captain’s Quarters, once the residence of a Spanish commander, offer a touch of elegance. Fine artworks and draperies bear scars from wild pirate revelry—burn marks and sword slashes hint at raucous nights. Faded patches on the walls mark where plundered portraits once hung. Above the fireplace, five miniature ships in glass bottles, rumored to represent pirates from across the globe uniting against tyranny, occasionally come to life and engage in thrilling battles.
