Disneyland Paris recently offered an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes at the first edition of the event “Backstage Stories: Entertainment Careers from Creative to Operations.” Cast Members from across the entertainment division shared their talents and expertise with colleagues, demonstrating how the resort’s magical shows come to life from initial concept to stage performance.
Hundreds of Cast Members go above and beyond behind the scenes to ensure every show exceeds guest expectations. The event spotlighted these dedicated individuals—the people who bring Disney stories to life.
Every new show begins in the blue sky phase, when a blank page—or more accurately, a blue sky—means anything is possible. Through brainstorming sessions and exploration of different narratives, the world of the future production begins to take shape. Creative teams develop mood boards as a visual expression of the creative vision, serving as the foundation for the entire project. Once the project team is formed, production and show directors work closely together to ensure the original idea can one day shine under the spotlight.
Once the concept is approved, DTS designers assess technical feasibility and safety. They ensure that even the boldest ideas from the blue sky phase can be realized while maintaining absolute safety for everyone involved. Martin, DTS designer for “Disney Tales of Magic,” began his career at Disneyland Paris in 2019 as a video stage manager and now applies that experience in his current role.
The production and manufacturing phase brings together a wide range of exceptional crafts and skills. Yvon has worked as a props specialist for two years, creating set pieces and props once the design phase is complete. Throughout the process, he maintains ongoing dialogue with designers to incorporate every insight and practical recommendation.
In the workshops, costume designers stay constantly busy. Camille has been with Disneyland Paris for seven years. She started in the attractions costume department, handling regular maintenance of outfits for Audio-Animatronics, including those in “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Working closely with animation teams, she ensures the costumes never restrict movement.
When a show finally reaches the stage, additional specialists handle the execution. Stage technicians set up and operate scenery at precise positions. Kenny, deputy stage coordinator, launched his career with “Moteurs… Action! Stunt Show Spectacular” and is now contributing to “Disney Cascade of Lights,” the upcoming nighttime spectacular at Disney Adventure World.
Sound technicians move throughout both parks to equip performers with microphones—a significant responsibility, given that singers in most Disneyland Paris shows perform live without playback.
Florian has coordinated special effects across both parks for eight years. Following his work on “Disney Tales of Magic,” he is now applying his expertise to Studio D and upcoming productions at Disney Adventure World. His responsibilities include managing and installing pyrotechnics, fireworks, smoke effects, and more—an essential role in keeping the magic alive.
The Dance Captain serves as the choreographer’s true right hand. They pass the artistic vision on to the performers who appear onstage daily, know every step and movement, and can step in at any moment to ensure the magic is never interrupted.
And now the moment everyone has been waiting for arrives: the curtain rises, and it’s time to enjoy the show.
Countless other roles help deliver entertainment at Disneyland Paris to the highest standard every day. Thanks to all the Cast Members who, with their passion and expertise, continue to make Disneyland Paris a unique place where dreams come true.
