More Titan Track for Wodan Timburcoaster?

The Europa-Park community is buzzing: In yesterday’s Instagram Story from well-known fan account Parkfan95, it’s clearly visible that the popular wooden coaster Wodan Timburcoaster is apparently receiving another section of Titan Track. This time, the curves right before the final brakes are affected – a section that, for many enthusiasts, delivered the ultimate “out-of-control” sensation. Forum discussions are heated, as many see this change as another step away from the original character of what was once one of the world’s best wooden coasters.

In recent years, Europa-Park has already converted certain sections to Titan Track. The final brakes themselves have had it for some time, and the area before the lift hill was updated last year. Titan Track is a complete steel rail system that replaces traditional wooden layers – requiring less maintenance, lower costs, and greater durability. Originally, however, it was intended primarily for heavily stressed sections, not as a widespread replacement.

Many fans are expressing deep disappointment. They mourn the distinctive ride experience that made Wodan perfect for 14 years. The final section, with its sharp directional changes and classic wooden coaster rattle, felt wild and unmatched to them. Now they fear this element is gradually disappearing. Comparisons to Joris en de Draak at Efteling are common: Titan Track was used there too, and many find that section less intense with a different running sound.

Possible reasons cited include cost savings and efficiency – understandable from an operator’s perspective but painful from a fan viewpoint, especially for a former park icon like Wodan. Some speculate about noise reduction: Europa-Park has long struggled with noise complaints, and Titan Track is noticeably quieter than traditional wooden track.

There are also more moderate voices. Some point out that the ride feel probably won’t change fundamentally, since the wheels already run on steel and no rubberized tires like on pure steel coasters are used. The characteristic sound that always seemed like the train might fall apart could even become more pleasant. Others trust the park’s engineers and advise riding it first before judging.

The debate also revolves around classification: Does Wodan remain a pure wooden coaster, or is it becoming a hybrid without actually gaining the true advantages of a modern hybrid like inversions? For most regular guests, the change will barely be noticeable – Voltron has long taken over as the park’s top adrenaline attraction.

One thing is certain: the passion for Wodan remains unbroken. The community is eagerly awaiting the new season to experience for themselves what remains of the old wild ride.
