A travel group from AWO Sachsen-West in Grimma recently enjoyed a special weekend. Eighteen women and men aged 20 to 50 from the workshop and residential community, accompanied by staff, visited the Rulantica water world, stayed at the 4-star Superior Hotel Krønasår, and watched the Bundesliga match between SC Freiburg and RB Leipzig at the Europa-Park Stadion.
A Memorable Weekend at Rulantica and Freiburg
The Rulantica water world thrilled the group with its many slides, all of which they tried out. Afterwards, the 18 participants spent the night at the Europa-Park Hotel Krønasår, where the exceptional comfort left everyone impressed. The highlight came with the exciting match between SC Freiburg and RB Leipzig at the Europa-Park Stadion, delivering plenty of emotions and fun. Staff member Sören Ritz shared, “The group was overjoyed and would love to stay. Rulantica, Hotel Krønasår, and the game were unforgettable.”
Joint Initiative by Europa-Park and RB Leipzig
Since the SC Freiburg vs. RB Leipzig match in October 2021 at the new Europa-Park Stadion, Europa-Park, Germany’s largest theme park, and RB Leipzig have invited charitable organizations each Bundesliga season. The AWO Sachsen-West group from Grimma became the fifth to experience this trip as a yearly highlight. This initiative blends leisure with social commitment, creating lasting memories for selected projects.
AWO Sachsen-West and Its Work in Grimma
AWO Sachsen-West runs a workshop in Grimma with a vocational training area for 6 people, a work area with 200 spots—24 reserved for those with chronic mental illnesses—and a support area with 12 places for adults with severe multiple disabilities. External job opportunities include assembly, packaging, woodworking, costume rental, kitchen work, and garden maintenance. Many trip participants are employed there. The support service provides sports, creative, social, and therapeutic activities, along with educational programs to foster personal growth. In the Grimma residential community, staff assist with daily living in outpatient shared homes and a nearby residential facility.
