World Circus Day: How Europa-Park Connects to the Circus

Today, on World Circus Day, an art form takes center stage that has shaped the Europa-Park and its owning family for generations: the circus. Anyone visiting the theme park in Rust gets to experience a fascinating mix of tradition, precision and spectacular showmanship – from historic parade wagons all the way to world-class international entertainment and the nurturing of young talent.

The history of the Mack family has been closely intertwined with the glamorous world of the circus ring for generations. Long before the Europa-Park opened its gates, wagons for circus companies were already being built in the Baden town of Waldkirch. When the former Heinrich Mack Wagenbau entered the showman and carousel construction business in 1870, the company set off on a path that would leave a lasting mark on the family business. As early as 1915, Mack was regarded as the “court supplier” to Circus Krone. Later, famous names such as Sarrasani and Circus Schneider also counted among its clients. During last season’s anniversary celebrations, visitors to the Europa-Park were able to admire a more than 100-year-old circus parade wagon from Mack during the daily parade.

To this day, the circus remains firmly rooted in the Europa-Park. For decades, the Circus Revue has delighted guests during the winter season. Since last year, the park has been partnering with the world-famous International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo. As part of “Monte Carlo Circus Festival meets Europa-Park,” the show has been further developed with top-tier artists, a new concept and an even closer connection to the renowned festival.

“The circus unites imagination, precision, emotion and cross-generational enthusiasm like no other art form. This special magic has accompanied our family for generations and remains an important part of the Europa-Park DNA,” says Roland Mack. The owner of the Europa-Park was awarded the title “Ambassadeur du Cirque” in Monaco in 2025 by H.S.H. Prince Albert II. This special honor is presented by the Fédération Mondiale du Cirque for outstanding contributions to the art of circus.

Since this year, guests can also immerse themselves in the world of the famous International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo in the new Monaco themed area. An interactive quiz about artists, performances and the history of the festival offers exciting insights into this long-standing event.

Another key element of this vibrant circus tradition is the promotion of young talent. This year marks the debut of the “Circus Arts Summer Camp” at the TALENT ACADEMY Europa-Park. Children and teens aged 8 to 16 can try their hand at juggling, pantomime, acrobatics, movement and balancing there from August 3 to 5. Katja Mack, founder and director of the TALENT ACADEMY, also served on the jury of the 48th Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo.
