Peter Christensen Celebrates 25 Years at LEGOLAND Billund

Peter Christensen will celebrate his 25th anniversary at LEGOLAND Billund on October 28. The longtime employee began his career there on October 2, 2000, as a model designer and later moved to the technical operations department. His commitment to the park and its guests remains strong.

Anniversary Celebration

Peter Christensen's 25th anniversary will be celebrated with an open reception on Tuesday, October 28, at 11 a.m. in the Multihuset in the conference department of Hotel LEGOLAND.

Current Role and Colleagues

In the technical operations department, which Peter Christensen joined in 2018, several colleagues have longer tenures at LEGOLAND Billund than he does. This sometimes leads him to refer to himself with a wink as "the new guy." However, for Peter Christensen, it's not about years of service but about community. He emphasizes the strong camaraderie among his colleagues as one of the best aspects of his job. After work, they often linger to continue their conversations.

Daily Tasks in Miniland

Along with his colleagues, Peter Christensen maintains all the vehicles in Miniland, among other duties, and ensures that the mechanics work flawlessly. This includes everything from sound effects to mills and trains. For him, it's crucial that everything in Miniland runs smoothly so that guests, especially the youngest ones, have a fantastic experience. He enjoys watching and hearing the children's reactions when they spot the train moving through Miniland. Moments like these make the job at LEGOLAND Billund unique for Peter Christensen. "The happy faces are the best reward. That's what it's all about," he explains.

Personal Interests and Family

Working with mechanics on a miniature scale aligns well with Peter Christensen's personal interests. He has a passion for model railroads, model ships, ferries, and airplanes, which he tinkers with in his free time. When not engaged in that hobby, he enjoys spending time in nature with his family. He especially values family life. Together with his wife, Lindsey, and their son, Andy, he occasionally travels to North Jutland to visit his family or to England, where Lindsey is from.

Special Memories

Even after a quarter-century at LEGOLAND Billund, Peter Christensen vividly recalls three special days: the day he received the invitation to the job interview, the day of the interview itself, and his first day of work. He can recount these events down to the smallest detail.

Entry into the Park

Peter Christensen started his work at LEGOLAND Billund on Monday, October 2, 2000, as October 1 fell on a Sunday. This place would become his workplace for many years.

The Dream Job

Peter Christensen was initially employed as a model designer, a position now known as model builder. His enthusiasm for designing and building models for Miniland was evident. He had landed his dream job, one he had pursued for over a decade. He had applied multiple times and nearly given up hope until he spotted two job advertisements in the newspaper Jyllands-Posten. Although he had initially decided not to apply anymore, his family and friends persuaded him, and he is grateful for that today.

First Experiences

In his early days as an employee at LEGOLAND Billund, it took about a year and a half for the smile to fade from his face, as Peter Christensen himself says. He remembers his initial tasks well. The model builders were preparing the new Los Angeles area in Miniland, and Peter Christensen built a truck as one of his first LEGO models for that section. Although the area no longer exists in the park, Peter Christensen still has the truck model. It sits on a shelf near his workplace, along with several other older LEGO models he created for Miniland.

Career Change

Peter Christensen held the model designer position for 18 years until the model department was dissolved following a restructuring at Merlin Entertainments. By then, the park, his colleagues, and the spirit of LEGOLAND Billund had become deeply ingrained in him. He couldn't imagine working elsewhere and offered his services in other departments. He soon received a position as a maintenance assistant in the technical operations department, where he remains today.
