At LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, 13-year-old Skye Shepheard from Canterbury has been crowned the first Mini-Mayor of Miniland London. She won the nationwide competition with a creative design that transforms Miniland London into an eco-friendly play zone. The model, built from LEGO bricks, will be on display in Miniland London until October and showcases a vision of a greener London.
The Competition and Its Inspiration
The Mini-Mayor of Miniland London competition was launched this year to celebrate the refurbishment of the London cluster in Miniland. This area now features renewed versions of iconic landmarks such as the Gherkin, City Hall, and the Cheesegrater. Skye Shepheard impressed the judges with her creativity and imagination by combining her love for LEGO with her passion for environmental protection. Her design represents a sustainable future for London, envisioning greener and more eco-friendly cities.Implementation of the Winning Design
Skye's winning design has been turned into a LEGO model by experienced model builders. It took 63 hours of work and 10,608 bricks to bring the vision to life. The model now occupies a place of honor in the heart of Miniland London and will remain on display until October. Visitors can discover it there, amid the seven brand-new buildings that recreate the iconic London skyline, including the Cheesegrater, City Hall, and the revamped Gherkin.Voices of the Participants
Skye Shepheard expressed her joy over the win: “I’m absolutely thrilled to become the first Mini-Mayor of Miniland London. I entered for fun and because I’m strongly convinced we need to make the world greener. I love LEGO and am very passionate about the declining state of our planet. Many cities aren’t green, so I wanted to use this opportunity to shape the London of the future, which is greener and more sustainable than today.
