New Tron: Ares Ride Overlay Announced for TRON Attractions in Magic Kingdom

Yvette Nicole Brown announced a new Tron: Ares Ride Overlay for the TRON attractions at the Walt Disney Studios presentation during Destination D23. This overlay celebrates the release of the film Tron: Ares and will be available for a limited time at the TRON Lightcycle / Run attractions in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort as well as in Shanghai Disney Resort. Visitors dive back into the Grid, but this time it breaks into our world and into Tomorrowland, where they immerse themselves in a digital realm that combines red and orange light trails with pulsating sounds from Nine Inch Nails.

The Tron: Ares Ride Overlay

The Tron: Ares Ride Overlay transforms the existing TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction into an immersive experience that merges reality with the film's digital world. Next time visitors enter the digital frontier with TRON Lightcycle / Run, they will launch into a Tron: Ares version of the high-speed, adrenaline-pumping ride that bends reality into the video game world. Instead of the classic blue and orange tones, riders weave through winding tunnels of glowing red and orange light trails. The rush of wind and the thrust of acceleration heighten the Lightcycle race, culminating in a futuristic symphony of light, speed, and sound.

Visual and Audio Elements

The overlay's immersive visual elements contrast the striking red tones of the digital world in Tron: Ares with the traditional blue hues of the Grid. These are complemented by the pulsating industrial sounds of Nine Inch Nails, which drive the ride's energy and deepen the experience between the Grid and reality.

Availability and Sponsors

The new Tron: Ares Ride Overlay launches in Magic Kingdom Park starting September 15 and in Shanghai Disneyland starting September 16. It is available as TRON Lightcycle/Run presented by Enterprise at Walt Disney World Resort and as TRON Lightcycle Power Run presented by Chevrolet at Shanghai Disney Resort.

The Film Tron: Ares

Tron: Ares, the third film in Disney's iconic Tron sci-fi franchise, hits theaters on October 10, 2025. The film explores a mind-bending collision of technology, identity, and reality, where Ares - a powerful and self-aware program - is sent from the digital world into the real world to complete a mission that could change both forever.

Cast and Direction

Jeff Bridges returns in Tron: Ares, starring alongside Jared Leto as Ares. The cast also includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Cameron Monaghan. The film is directed by Joachim Rønning, known for Disney action-adventure films like Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Nine Inch Nails in the Tron Universe

Nine Inch Nails brings its signature ambient grit to the Tron universe. As announced last year at D23, the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails adds its characteristic ambient grit to the Tron universe. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross previously collaborated with Disney/Pixar on Soul, where they composed dark and dreamy beats for afterlife scenes. These hypnotic rhythms contrasted with Jon Batiste's light jazz compositions that underscored Soul's New York City scenes. It is this dichotomy of worlds that brought Nine Inch Nails to Tron: Ares.

Musical Contribution

As Tron: Ares explores the transition from the Grid to the real world, Nine Inch Nails integrates pulsating synths, distorted textures, and haunting melodies that rewire the Tron universe from the inside out. The film's first track, As Alive as You Need Me to Be, has already been released and gives fans a pulsating preview of what's to come.
