PortAventura World Launches ULUM: World’s First Family-Friendly Mixed-Reality Attraction

PortAventura World opens ULUM: The Jurassic Awakening on November 26 — the world’s first family-friendly mixed-reality experience in a theme park. This groundbreaking attraction transports visitors to the heart of Mexico, blending themed physical sets with cutting-edge digital environments and letting guests encounter living aquatic dinosaurs that have survived, hidden underwater, for millions of years.

PortAventura Adventure Labs, the resort’s in-house innovation center, developed the experience in collaboration with Spatial Voyagers, with theming support from Moya. During the special Christmas opening phase, access is free and can only be reserved via the official PortAventura World app.

Guests step into the role of researchers exploring the cenotes of the Yucatán Peninsula in search of aquatic dinosaur fossils. What starts as a purely scientific mission quickly turns into an unexpected encounter with prehistoric creatures. The story draws deeply on Maya heritage and the mystery of the cenotes; the name ULUM represents strength and movement — core elements of both the Jurassic world and the expedition itself — sparking curiosity and imagination in visitors of all ages.

The 12- to 15-minute experience is designed for groups of up to six people and is recommended for ages six and up. It introduces the most advanced mixed-reality technology ever used in a theme park. PICO 4 Ultra Enterprise mixed-reality headsets seamlessly merge the real and digital worlds. Visitors move freely, interact with the environment in multisensory ways, and discover a unique version of the living Jurassic universe every time.
