Deep silence reigns in the water world of Rulantica after the gates close at 10 p.m. The usually vibrant water park falls eerily still in the darkness and quiet. At that point, the night shift begins for team leader Viktor Usbek and his Blitzblank cleaning crew. From 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., the team ensures that more than 50 slides, attractions, and 14 themed areas are spotless and ready for the next day's guests.
Viktor Usbek, the night shift team leader at Rulantica, arrives alert and full of energy right on time at the entrance. For nearly five years, he has been part of the Blitzblank team, supporting his colleagues with advice and assistance. In front of his favorite attraction, "Isbrekker," Usbek explains the core of their work: "We make sure that Rulantica is tidy and clean again for the guests the next day." This includes cleaning surfaces, pools, queue areas, attraction basins, and drains. There is a lot to do—and it shows right away. With the volume of facilities—more than 50 slides and attractions across 14 areas—the employees stick strictly to their schedule and divide tasks efficiently.
Teamwork is at the heart of operations for Usbek. "Teamwork is the be-all and end-all for me. It's important to me that we support each other and have fun at work together," he emphasizes. The outdoor area at "Svømmepol" features a large cleaning robot scrubbing the basin. Such machines are ideal for large surfaces but cannot achieve precision everywhere. A colleague in swim trunks and diving goggles uses a high-pressure cleaner to remove the smallest discolorations, combing through the entire pool with great care and highlighting the team's dedication.
The phone rings repeatedly; Usbek's line hardly stops. "No problem, we'll be right there!" he says into the receiver before hurrying off. "A colleague in the gastronomy area needs a helping hand for a moment!" In the gastronomy area, the team stacks chairs on tables to clear the indoor space, allowing floor cleaning to begin with a large machine. "All right, on we go!"
The work is physically demanding, especially in the warm temperatures of the indoor areas. Usbek acknowledges this: "Oh yes, few people know how physically demanding our job really is. Of course, you get used to being on your feet all night. There are even days when I walk a total of 20 kilometers." Up the stairs to "Isbrekker," the team cleans the queue area. Three employees there greet with laughter, their good mood evident. "My team is really great. I'm proud to have such motivated and dedicated colleagues," Usbek says contentedly. The "Skog Lagune" is also thoroughly scrubbed using full gear, including a diving mask and cleaning device.
By 2 a.m., the shift continues late into the night. For Usbek, a self-described night owl, it feels natural. "I've always been more of a night owl. I love being awake when it's dark outside. And when I get home from the night shift, I arrive just in time to wake my children and get them ready for kindergarten before I go to bed. For me, this way of working is perfect." Throughout the hours, the Blitzblank team moves through Rulantica, ensuring a perfect start to the next day.
