Traditionally, Europa-Park invites families with a child suffering from a life-shortening illness to Germany's largest theme park during the winter season, on the initiative of Mauritia Mack. After a joint gathering, the families explored the 17 European-themed areas with their lovingly designed winter decorations and more than 100 attractions. Special highlights included the new Winterland themed area with the winter circus revue “Monte Carlo Circus Festival meets Europa-Park” as well as the “Ice Sculpture Dome – Journey through Time to 1975”.
“The families achieve incredible things every day—they show a strength and joy for life that deeply touches me time and again. With this initiative, I want to give the parents and children some carefree hours, especially in Europa-Park's anniversary year, and provide them with strength for their challenging daily lives. It is important that we as a society stand together and work collectively to improve the quality of life for these families,” said Mauritia Mack, who has been an ambassador for the German Children's Hospice Association since 2015.
The support extends beyond the winter season. In October, Mauritia Mack invited families from the German Children's Hospice Association to Europa-Park to mark World Hospice and Palliative Care Day. The winter initiative for affected families celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.
