Ankle-deep in the México area — and that was on the walkway, not on a ride. Heavy rain and hail hit the Camp de Tarragona on Monday and left PortAventura World with footage fans did not see coming: the theme park’s México land was completely flooded. What happened, and how is the park running now?
The storm put the México area next to restaurant La Hacienda underwater. The land and the restaurant are both operating normally. Guests still walking the grounds at the time had water up to their ankles.
The clips are spreading on social media through a Reel from Instagram account @aventurasconlauydavid. It shows water pooling in several spots around México.
The stretch that flooded sits next to the new Refresh Point in México and next to La Hacienda. That same corner hosts the horror passage La Muerte Viva at Halloween. PortAventura opened the Refresh Points this summer: themed spots with misters, sprinklers and water jets so visitors can cool off on hot days.
Comments under the post piled up fast. Some users say this would not be the first time this part of the park has looked like that after a hard rain.
Monday afternoon hit the Camp de Tarragona especially hard. Emergency line 112 took 769 calls, which produced 505 incidents. The Bombers de la Generalitat received 402 alerts, 348 of them tied to the Regió d’Emergències de Tarragona.
Around the resort, the roads clogged up. The A-7 was closed southbound between Vila-seca and Reus, other streets nearby backed up, and plenty of guests had trouble getting off the property.
PortAventura is operating normally Tuesday. The park told Diari that the resort, the parks and the hotels are running normally Tuesday.
