On December 3, 2023, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, LEGOLAND Germany showcased its support with an impressive visual action: A 10-meter-high LEGO® DUPLO® tree was illuminated in vibrant purple. This act of solidarity took place during the WinterWonder LEGOLAND® event, attracting numerous visitors amazed by the spectacular sight of the illuminated tree. This event not only marked the 30th anniversary of the international commemorative day but also highlighted the park's commitment to welcoming and delighting people of all abilities.

Commitment Beyond the Day: LEGOLAND's Support for Persons with Disabilities

LEGOLAND Germany demonstrates its commitment to people with disabilities not just on this special day, but throughout the year. Programs such as Merlin's Magic Wand, the charity of the Merlin Entertainments Group, and the LEGOLAND Fun Festival, exemplify how the resort continuously offers support. Last year, these initiatives provided approximately 600 days off tickets and 40 overnight stays at the resort, as well as 5,200 tickets for the Fun Festival to needy families and organizations. These actions allow families to escape their daily routines and enjoy carefree moments at LEGOLAND.

The Significance of December 3rd at LEGOLAND

Christian Sichert, Director of Holiday Village & Admission and responsible for the Merlin's Magic Wand projects at LEGOLAND, emphasized the uniqueness of this year's December 3rd, as it fell on an opening day. In previous years, LEGOLAND had already illuminated its entrance portal and Neuschwanstein Castle in purple. However, this year's action in the park offered a unique opportunity to involve visitors directly in awareness-raising activities. Sichert highlighted that LEGOLAND should be a place where people with and without disabilities can share joy and create memories together.

Further Information and Resources

For more information and support regarding accessibility, LEGOLAND Germany offers a dedicated website, www.LEGOLAND.de/barrierefrei. This platform provides useful information and features an informative film on the topic, promoting awareness and understanding of the needs of people with disabilities.

Conclusion: A Shining Example for Other Amusement Parks

The actions and initiatives of LEGOLAND Germany on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and beyond show the importance of creating an environment that welcomes all people. With its luminous campaign and year-round efforts, LEGOLAND sets a strong sign and serves as a role model for other amusement parks and businesses. The significance of such commitment cannot be overstated, as it helps shape a society where all people, regardless of their abilities, can participate equally.
